OHIO mourns the death of graduate student

Terrie Jean Hitchings, a 50-year-old Ohio University graduate student, died unexpectedly at her home in The Plains on Monday evening.

Hitchings was in her second year of pursuing a master's degree in computer education and technology from the Patton College of Education and Human Services.

"We are very saddened by this loss," said Renee Middleton, dean of the Patton College of Education and Human Services.  "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Terrie Jean Hitchings. She was a bright student and those who knew her best will miss her."

According to the Athens County Sheriff's Department, foul play is not suspected.

"Terrie's untimely death was very sad news to all of us and our condolences go out to her family and friends," said Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi.

According to her online obituary, funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Souers-Cardaras Funeral Home, which is located at 46 Fayette Street in Nelsonville, Ohio.
