School of Music swings into concert season with faculty recital

School of Music faculty members You-Seong Kim, soprano, and Youmee Kim, piano, will present a recital at 8 p.m. Friday at the Recital Hall in Glidden Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

The performance will feature a series of sentimental and reverent songs, including a collection of religious songs from composers of various stylistic periods such as Mozart, Beethoven, Antonín Dvořák, Pheobe Knapp and John Carter.

In a guest appearance, Cedarville University violinist Jun Kim will join the duo. The trio will perform "The Lord's Prayer" and "Blessed Assurance Jesus is Mine," arranged by You-Seong Kim.

Soprano You-Seong Kim has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Austria, Germany, Portugal, Belgium and her native Korea. She has appeared with the Cincinnati Opera, Bloomington Early Music Festival, Korean National Opera Studio, University of Cincinnati Opera, Indiana University Opera Theatre, WDR-Rundfunkorchester Köln and the Kentucky Symphony.

Youmee Kim is a visiting assistant professor of piano. A specialist on 20th Century American piano music, Kim has published the book, “An Analysis and Performance Guide to Benjamin Lees’s Odyssey I and II.”
