From staff reports
A group of 54 conscientious Ohio University students is heading to Louisiana today to help with the BP oil spill cleanup efforts.
The group is scheduled to leave for Louisiana today at 4 p.m. from the Adams Residence Hall parking lot. President Roderick J. McDavis will be on the scene to give some encouraging words to the students before they depart.
The students raised more than $10,000 for travel expenses and lodging. A spokesman for the group said it has been in contact with multiple agencies in New Orleans and will likely be one of the first cleanup crews on the scene this weekend, as oil is reaching the shore and sensitive wetlands.
The group returns to campus on Tuesday.
