Spring is in the air and with the arrival of warm weather, Ohio University students welcome moms to campus for Moms Weekend.
For one of the most popular family weekends of the year, which begins on Friday, April 30, the university has a variety of activities planned for students and their families.
OHIO junior Allison Loparo will celebrate her third Moms Weekend this year with her mom, who will make the four-hour drive to Athens from the Cleveland area.
"I'm excited for her to come here because we have so much fun every year and with all the moms who come down, there's always a lot to do on and off campus," Loparo said. "It's our own little Ohio University tradition."

The School of Dance and School of Music will host its annual concert of African dance and Music, AZA!, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 30 at Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $9 for non-OHIO students and senior citizens and free for OHIO students with a university ID.
The OHIO softball team takes on the University of Toledo in a softball doubleheader at 1 p.m. Friday at the Ohio Softball Field. Admission is free.
OHIO students and their moms can enjoy a "tropical" escape at "Bahaman Bring Your Mama," hosted from 9 p.m. to midnight Friday at Boyd Dining Hall on West Green. The free event will feature a night of bingo, crafts, games, music and refreshments.
Enjoy coffee and tea with OHIO's President and First Lady, Roderick and Deborah McDavis for coffee and tea from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 1, at the President's Residence, 29 Park Place. Admission is free and dress is casual.
The 10th Annual Moms Walk for a Cure 5K will kick off at 9 a.m. Saturday, followed by a guest speaker at 10 a.m. and the beginning of the walk, which starts at the Ping Student Recreation Center. Participants can also enter for a chance to win raffle prizes and attend a luncheon from 12:15 p.m. to 2 p.m. All tickets are $15 and are available presale at Baker University Center and College Gate starting Monday, April 26 and are available the day of the event at the Ping Center.
For an afternoon of relaxing massages, great food, entertaining music and more, the Black Student Cultural Programming Board and the Student Activities Commission will host the Moms Weekend Expo. The free fun begins at noon and will last until 3 p.m. Saturday on the second floor of Baker University Center.
Cheer on the softball team as it faces the Falcons of Bowling Green State University at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ohio Softball Field. Admission is free.
See who will take the cake in the Moms Weekend cake decorating contest, 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, in the second floor multipurpose room of Baker University Center. The contest, which is hosted by University Programming Council, will feature OHIO alumna Amanda Ellis, owner and chef for Baker Gingham in Columbus. She will give a demonstration and watch as teams make their own creations. Cost is $10 for a team of two people, which includes one cake and light refreshments. Participants will be able to take home their cakes and awards will be given to the best in show.
