Service Learning Courses

At Ohio University structured community engagement happens through Academic Service Learning Courses that meet a standardized set of criteria. Service Learning courses are developed through a collaborative partnership between the university and the community based on the needs of the community as identified by community leaders.

These educational experiences, or "learning by doing," allow students to apply academic material and theories to real-world situations in which they practice critical thinking skills while effecting positive social change in the community. Through the hands-on experience and content based reflection students gain a much deeper understanding of course curriculum and how it can apply to the world outside of the classroom.
