The Center for Campus and Community Engagement (CCCE) serves as the central point of contact for meeting the community engagement needs for students, faculty, and staff at Ohio University, as well as for community-based organizations locally and globally.
The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching describes community engagement as the collaboration between institutions of higher education and their larger communities (local, regional/state, national, global) for the mutually beneficial exchange of knowledge and resources in a context of partnership and reciprocity.
In reciprocal partnerships, there are collaborative community-campus definitions of problems, solutions, and measures of success. Community engagement requires processes in which academics recognize, respect, and value the knowledge, perspectives, and resources of community partners and that are designed to serve a public purpose, building the capacity of individuals, groups, and organizations involved to understand and collaboratively address issues of public concern.
The CCCE provides the administrative and educational support services to students, faculty, and members of community-based organizations who wish to employ community engagement practices for the mutual benefit of students and the community. Our offices are located in Lindley Hall 041-044.
CCCE provides resources and professional development for faculty to lead students in connecting the classroom to the greater community and engaging the community in mutually beneficial, integrative curricular activities that advance Ohio University's aspirations to become the nation's best transformational learning community and to elevate the quality of life in southeastern Ohio.
CCCE is a resource for students who are interested in finding opportunites to engage locally and globally. Whether students are looking for service learning classes, volunteer opportunites or internship experiences, the CCCE can help connect students to resources on campus and in the community.
CCCE collaborates with regional community-based organizations and university-based partners on all campuses to provide students with transformational learning opportunities (TLO's) linked to the curriculum through structured applied learning, service learning, community-based research, and volunteer activities.
CCCE provides the community a much needed "one-stop" centralized access to university-wide opportunities for collaboration with faculty and students to build capacity and integrate innovative practices in their organizations.
