Social Work Clinic

The Ohio University Psychology and Social Work Clinic (PSWC) is an outpatient clinic supported by the Department of Psychology (College of Arts and Sciences) and the Social Work program (College of Health Sciences and Professions). It was established as a clinical training site for graduate students from these programs.

The clinic offers an array of services to the University community as well as the local community and region. These services include intelligence and neuropsychological assessment; psychological testing; attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder assessments; and learning disability assessment. In addition, the clinic provides individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults; marital/ couples and family therapy; and child management and parenting assistance.

Some clients will not be an appropriate match for services at the PSWC and a referral is necessary to a more suitable agency. Clients/situations the PSWC is not equipped to serve include:

  • persons who are actively suicidal
  • persons requiring 24-hour crisis management
  • persons requiring imminent psychiatric hospitalization
  • persons who are not stabilized on psychotropic medications
  • persons requiring extensive interagency case management
  • persons who require assessment to be used in legal matters
  • persons whose difficulties do or are likely to involve legal matters
  • persons whose primary problem isalcohol or other drug use
