Nursing in Botswana 2017

Jul 14, 2017

During the recent Global Health Initiative experience to south-central Africa, School of Nursing Assistant Professor Eliza Harper and nursing students who participated in this travel aboard opportunity, organized the delivery of supply donations for Princess Marina Hospital in Gaborone, Botswana and other Ohio University partners in the area. Students each took one extra suitcase carrying supplies including surgical instruments, gloves, stethoscopes, scrubs and more. Thanks to the Ohio University School of Nursing BSN Organization, Director of Global Health Dr. Gillian Ice, and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine for their help in collecting items for this endeavor! During this trip, students also had the opportunity to work with healthcare professionals in a variety of situations at the Princess Marina Hospital as well as other hospitals, clinics, and home visits.  The annual Botswana Global Health Initiative program provides nursing students with a unique opportunity to experience hands-on learning in the hospital setting as well as witness global medical issues. The supply delivery made this summer allow us to give back to the Botswana partners who work to make this Global Health program a great learning opportunity for our students.
