Amani Burke
May 1, 2020

Meet Interdisciplinary Health Studies (IHS) senior, Amani Burke. Burke is also a member of the Ohio University women’s basketball team.

Burke would like to be an influence in all women’s sports and use her personality and story to encourage other women and girls, who are similar to herself, to strive to become anything they choose.

IHS courses supported Burke in achieving her goals by teaching her how to show humility and humanity and how to use her spirt to touch others by putting them first, and be happy doing so.

Outside of school, Burke enjoys traveling, writing, women’s basketball and plant-based eating. If she could impact a health disparity, she would focus on diet. She has become passionate about helping others choose a health lifestyle by way of eating.

“I would encourage others to explore the many options of healthy eating: vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, etc. I would use my experience to help others make better choices that could ultimately boost their health and well-being.”

Burke is very family-oriented and enjoys spending time with her family and grandparents.

When asked what makes her unique, she responded “My heart. I love to see others happy and successful, sometimes more than myself.”
