ABOUT THE FACILITY
The Atrium Café, located on the first floor of Grover Center is an independently student-run public eatery that is supported by the College of Health Sciences and Professions. With an emphasis on health and sustainability the Atrium Café is a focal point for Food and Nutrition Division programs as well as a showcase for the School of Applied Health and Wellness. The cafe offers fresh, organic and local foods, all meals are produced daily by students majoring in Nutrition and Applied Dietetics at the University. Under the direction of Chef Francis McFadden, Café Coordinator and Assistant Professor in the School of Applied Health Sciences and Wellness students receive a required food service operation rotation needed for them to sit for their national exam. This learning laboratory provides our students with hands-on lessons about contemporary food service management, cuisine development and related topics on food and wellness. The café allows students opportunities to develop the both individual and strategic thinking, to be successful in today’s demanding and ever-changing food environment.
The Atrium Café is committed to bringing delicious, healthy, homemade meals to the Ohio University community and supports the local food movement in Athens as well. The Café is Green Restaurant Certified and also hosts culinary demonstrations and events for the community that includes visitation by top chefs and representatives of the food industries both regionally and nationally. The Atrium Café offers a variety of freshly-made pastries, entrees and side dishes that change day to day. Also available are a selection of homemade soups, premade wraps and sandwiches, pizza, and a salad bar. Breakfast is always available until at least 10:30 am, with options from bagels to a full breakfast of eggs, potatoes and bacon to, breakfast sandwiches and healthier options like hot oatmeal. If you're looking for a quick snack, we have chips, candy bars, granola bars, and plenty of drinks available to grab and go. Catering services are also available by Atrium Catering. Our catering operation provides students in the Restaurant, Hotel and Tourism program an outlet to showcase their talents, whether it is a small group meeting or a large formal event our staff can help you in the planning and development of the occasion.
