June 04, 2018 : Office Administration Technology program hosts OAD Statewide Meeting

Ohio University Chillicothe hosted the annual OAD Statewide Meeting on April 20, 2018. The meeting brings together Office Administration associate degree faculty and technical support specialists from all over Ohio. Associate Professor Allison White, Program Coordinator for the Office Administration Technology (OAT) at Ohio University, centered this year’s agenda around the theme of Partnerships: Taking it to the Streets.

Martin Tuck, Dean of the Chillicothe Campus, opened the meeting with a welcome to attendees from Southern State, Clark State, Northwest State, Sinclair, Rhodes State, and Wright State University. Dean Tuck shared information on the many community partnerships developed by the campus including those with Adena Regional Medical Center, Pickaway-Ross Career & Technology Center, and the Ohio Department of Corrections.

Throughout the day, faculty attendees shared partnership details, teaching strategies, technology updates, and more. Discussion on Microsoft Office Specialist certificates (i.e. Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint), materials, cost factors, and testing facilities were a primary focus. White shared recent experiences with transfer credit for military veterans who have completed hours in various offices and facilities during activity duty and how she plans to implement such transfer credit options for those interested in OAT.

A highlight of the day included a panel discussion with local and Chillicothe Campus experts who addressed the administrative needs of employers and developed best practices for Office Administration degree graduates. The panel of experts included Julie DeCamp, President and CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Ohio, Jonnetta Gadson, Attorney, Leanna Ater, American Electric Power and OAT Alumni, and Martha Tanedo, Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Student Support and Career Services for the Chillicothe Campus.

After lunch faculty members from the campus’s Applied Sciences and Professions Division, Dr. Jim McKean, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator of Law Enforcement Technology and Criminal Justice, and Dr. Donna Burgraff, Associate Professor of Technical and Applied Studies (BTAS), shared their programs’ internal and external partnership experiences and gave advice for those seeking to start new alliances. The meeting ended with a tour of the Chillicothe Campus computer labs and technology facilities.
