2019 News Baseball Duo
February 25, 2019 : Father-son baseball duo joining OHIO Chillicothe for the 2019 season

Ohio University Chillicothe’s men’s baseball team has proudly welcomed a father-son duo to the 2019 team, Shad Dailey Sr. and Shad Dailey Jr.

Head coach of the baseball team, Bret Mavis, explained that the duo reached out to him in the fall of 2018 to express their interest in joining the team. After discussion with Mavis, the decision was made for both Dailey Sr. and Jr. to join the team as players, and for Dailey Sr. to also take on an assistant coach role (Dailey Sr. has experience coaching his son during high school).

Dailey Sr. and Jr. both made the decision to become student athletes while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business management. Dailey Sr. owns a construction company and plans to use his degree to further his business. Their choice to become Hilltoppers was driven by the convenient location and low tuition prices provided by OHIO Chillicothe.

Coach Mavis commented on the experience so far with the duo on the team, stating “They both have such positive attitudes and have made it to every workout that we have had. They always help out in any way they can, and it is my pleasure to have them on the team.”

When asked about their thoughts for the upcoming season, both Dailey Sr. and Dailey Jr. expressed great excitement. Dailey Sr. remarked “It will be neat to play out on the field with my son, after all of the time I spent coaching him throughout school. Some people have said I am too old, but I think you are never too old to play.” Sr. also expressed that he is looking forward to playing with his girlfriend’s son, who is also on the team. Dailey Jr commented “I am excited to see the competitive element my dad and I will bring to the team when we play together.”

Congratulations, Shad Dailey Sr. and Shad Dailey Jr.! Best of luck to the team for the 2019 season!
