2019 News Black History Month
February 22, 2019 : Join Dr. Obi for a Black History Month dialogue

On Monday Feb. 25, Join Dr. Greg Chidi Obi for an open dialogue in celebration of Black History Month, which will be open to all faculty, staff, and students.

Dr. Obi expressed the importance of this event occurring as a dialogue instead of a presentation, stating that there are no experts in the review of black history. “Opinions are based on experiences, and history is based around a biased view.” Obi knows that each person experiences history differently and wants to ensure that guests at the event get to express their views equally.

An African native, Dr. Obi has been an American citizen for fifteen years and has insight on the migration experience. Obi plans discuss the experience of adapting to a new life, particularly from the perspective of the average slave in American history. He stated that many African American slaves became “reluctant heroes” in history, and he wants to shine light on their experiences. Dr. Obi plans to discuss how intersectionality impacted these individuals as well as individuals in today’s society.

The dialogue will also include a brief slideshow presentation on life in Africa today, as well as the important contributions of African American history.

The event will be held in the Bennett Hall auditorium at 5:00 PM. For additional information, contact Dr. Greg Chidi Obi at or 740.774.7703.
