Constitution day event
September 13, 2017 : OUC screening of Iron Jawed Angels to be held Sept. 18

OUC screening of Iron Jawed Angels to be held Sept. 18

In recognition of Constitution Day on Sept. 17, Ohio University Chillicothe's Cultural Committee is sponsoring a movie screening and discussion of Iron Jawed Angels on Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m. in Bennett Hall room 134.

Dr. John O'Keefe, professor of history at OUC, will screen the film and host a discussion afterwards.

“I wanted to do something that highlighted a different issue that we’ve talked about before,” O’Keefe stated. “A lot of constitutional issues center around who has the right to participate politically in making the laws and who the right to participate in our society. Similarly, if you’re shut out of that process, how do you engage people and power and how do you persuade the American public in the justness of your cause.”

O’Keefe said the movie places the issues of social movements and the tensions faced within them, in a historical context with what is happening in today’s world in regard to political movements.

"Iron Jawed Angels" tells the remarkable story of a group of passionate and dynamic young women, led by Alice Paul and her friend Lucy Burns, who put their lives on the line to fight for American women's right to vote.

The event is free and open to students and will include free pizza for those who attend.
