Welcome Week activities mark beginning of new year at OUC

It’s official, school is back in session!

More than 2,000 students, both new and returning, flooded the halls of Ohio University Chillicothe this week in a flurry of activities to kick off the fall semester.

OUC’s Student Services coordinated a week of fun events to welcome students back to campus, which included a cookout, student activities fair, scavenger hunt and will culminate with an ice cream social and screening of “Jaws” on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 at 8:30 p.m.

OUC Campus Dean, Dr. Martin Tuck, spent time early in the week welcoming students and offered words of advice saying, “It’s wonderful to see everyone back on campus, full of excitement and determination for the fall term. I wish everyone success as they embark on the different paths of their journeys at OUC and look forward to another great year serving each and every one of you.”

As a way of helping to ease the stress of transitioning back to school, Coordinator of Student Activities, Ashlee Rauckhorst, worked diligently over the summer to organize and develop fun and helpful events for returning Hilltoppers.

“I love organizing Welcome Week for all of our new and returning students,” said Rauckhorst. “In my opinion, it is very important to have big events at OUC during the first week of classes, similarly to what students might experience at main campus. Commuter students definitely deserve that traditional welcome! College is a new, and sometimes stressful, journey for many and having opportunities to engage with our students, staff, and faculty through campus activities is a way to develop a relationship to our school which is vital for student success.”

With all the fun events taking place, the rest of the campus faculty and staff provided support services to ensure student success from the start. From impromptu advising sessions, to financial aid assistance, the OUC Student Services staff will continue to be there each step of the way for student’s journeys throughout their college career.

Additional helpful resources are available for those students who may need it, which includes accessibility coordination services, library and computer needs, career counseling, advising and more.  Students can visit to explore resources available on campus or they can reach out in person by visiting any of the offices at OUC.
