OHIO UNIVERSITY - CHILLICOTHE

2018 News Mikel Pritchard 1000th Point
November 11, 2018 : Pritchard begins basketball season by scoring his 1000th career point

Ohio University Chillicothe student-athlete, Mikel Pritchard, accomplished a personal milestone by scoring his 1,000th career point during the first game of the season on Oct. 27, 2018. The men’s basketball team won 84-78 against Hocking College.

Pritchard, a Middle Childhood Education student focusing on language arts and science, graduated from McClain High School in 2014. He plans to graduate with his bachelor’s degree in the fall of 2019.

The Latham native began his basketball career at OHIO Chillicothe in the fall of 2014, taking a year off to focus on school during the 2015 basketball season.

“This achievement definitely means a lot to me because I wasn't a very good player when I first started playing for the campus,” Pritchard noted when asked about his work to meet his goal. “I worked hard and allowed my teammates and coaches to mentor me into becoming the player I am today. It's reassuring to see the hours I've put in pay off.”

Pritchard gives a lot of credit to his support system on the campus.

He remarked, “I want to acknowledge my teammates for being so supportive and helping me reach this milestone. They're the best group of guys I could ask for. Also, I'd like to thank Coach McCray for believing in me and giving me the chance to compete even when we don't see eye-to-eye. Finally, I'd like to give a shout out to Karen Corcoran for being a huge supporter in what I do, athletically and academically. She's encouraged me every step of the way even when I felt like giving up from being so overwhelmed.”

Congratulations, Mikel!
