May 12, 2019 : Spetnagel, Roy to deliver speeches at Graduation Recognition Ceremony

2019 News Roy

Tom Spetnagel, Jr., Ross County Auditor, and Ohio University Chillicothe’s graduating senior Jennifer Roy will deliver remarks at this year’s Graduation Recognition Ceremony on May 3, 2019.

The Graduation Recognition Ceremony honors the accomplishments of the Class of 2019 at the regional campus level the night before commencement at Ohio University.

Spetnagel will keynote the ceremony held in the Chillicothe campus Shoemaker Center, while Roy will give the class remarks as the chosen student representative.

Tom Spetnagel, Jr. is a lifelong resident of Chillicothe. He was Chillicothe High School’s valedictorian for the year 2000 and he obtained his law degree from Capital University Law School. At age 27, Tom became the youngest person ever elected Auditor for the City of Chillicothe and he is the only person to ever serve in that role for both the City of Chillicothe and Ross County.

Throughout his career, Tom has been very active in the community. His passion for history has led him to volunteer at Adena Mansion and Gardens, where you might have seen him portray Thomas Worthington or one of the Worthington family members in Adena’s Murder Mystery. Tom is also the Treasurer for Chillicothe High School’s Alumni Association and has been a volunteer for the United Way of Ross County and the Good Samaritan Food Pantry. Tom was selected by his peers to serve on the statewide Executive Committee for the County Auditors’ Association of Ohio.

The class speaker for this year’s ceremony is Jennifer Roy, an integrated healthcare studies major. She was selected to deliver the class address by the graduation committee. Roy is originally from Portland, OR.

“Being selected as this year’s Reflection Speaker at graduation is a wonderful honor,” remarked Roy. “There has been a lot of hard work put into achieving this degree, and I am fulfilling a life-long dream by doing so. Getting the chance to talk about Ohio University Chillicothe and the student experience is a privilege. Achieving a dream is the best reward you can give yourself, obtaining the dream is a wonderful journey.”

The Graduation Recognition Ceremony will take place May 3, 2019 beginning at 7 p.m. in the Shoemaker Center at the Chillicothe campus. The community is invited to a celebration in honor of our graduating class of 2019. A reception will be held immediately following the conclusion of the ceremony in the Shoemaker Center.
