2019 News Bobcat Blitz
January 11, 2019 : Bobcat Blitz welcomes newest OHIO Chillicothe students

Making new students feel confident in the start of their college journey at Ohio University Chillicothe has always been a top priority. On Thursday, January 10 a panel of faculty, staff and students came together to provide OHIO Chillicothe’s newest students with information for the upcoming spring semester.

Associate Dean Dr. Dywayne Nicely moderated the event and assisted in the answering of questions. Dean Martin Tuck “kicked off” the panel with a presentation on independence, accountability and responsibility; explaining to the new students how they would need to take responsibility for their own education. Dean Tuck informed new high school graduates of how the experience of college would greatly contrast with their high school experience. Tuck made sure the students were aware that they should not fear seeking help, as every student needs assistance at one point in their education.

The panel also included faculty and staff members Cristy Null, Michael Lafreniere, and Dr. Greg Obi. Each member discussed a different topic, such as intellectual engagement, classroom environment and persistence. Closing the panel were Annabella Justice and Matthew Bush, both students of OHIO Chillicothe. They both shared information about their personal experiences on campus and some information on the typical classroom at OHIO Chillicothe.

After the panel had concluded their thoughts, the panel opened the discussion to allow students to ask questions. Once the questions were addressed, the new students were taken on a tour of the campus so they could comfortably prepare for their upcoming classes.
