OHIO UNIVERSITY - CHILLICOTHE

2017 News Women's Volleyball ORCC Champions
October 30, 2017 : Hilltopper Women's Volleyball Team

The Ohio University Chillicothe Hilltopper volleyball team went undefeated during the 2017 season in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference (ORCC), and last weekend beat Ohio University Lancaster to earn the title of ORCC State Volleyball Tournament champions.   To road to the final tournament was paved with wins against Miami University Middletown and Ohio State University Lima.

Coach Ally Coyle, new to the head coach position at OUC, is proud of the team’s record.  “A 14-11 overall record, undefeated in the ORCC, and State Champs, I honestly could not be more proud of their accomplishments,” said Coyle.  “This season has been full of ups and downs but these girls have fought hard, laughed, cried and grown so much not only on but off the court as well.”  The team was not without its challenges during the 2017 season.  With a rotating roster for a portion of the season, the lady Hilltoppers had to put forth extra effort to maintain a winning mindset.  This effort off during the final three matches against Ohio University Lancaster.  “It means a lot to be the conference champions.  It’s really awesome because our team has overcome a lot of obstacles and for us to be on top is amazing,” said first year student Hannah Rausch, an undecided major from Milford Center, Ohio.

The twelve-woman roster includes five sophomores, four juniors, and three new freshmen from high schools throughout the region and beyond.  New student Baylee Hartman, a 2017 Logan Elm High School graduate, won the All-Tournament Team MVP award.  “Earning the Conference MVP means a lot being a freshman coming in and really knowing our college or the team.  I really have to thank my coach and teammates for supporting me,” said Hartman.  Fellow teammate junior Taylor Hetterscheidt, a Grove City High School graduate and OUC nursing major, was awarded the All-Tournament Team.

For now the team is celebrating their success and looking forward to next season.  “Their hard work and dedication to the program has definitely paid off,” stated Coyle.  “They have laid a solid foundation for next year, and I can’t wait to see what’s to come for OUC Volleyball.” The OUC volleyball team took the title of ORCC State Volleyball Tournament Champions in 2015 and 2012 with other accolades dating back to 2005. Congratulations to the OUC volleyball team on their accomplishment.
