March 11, 2019 : Gateway to Success program hosted prospective students with disabilities

On March 1, 2019 Ohio University Chillicothe hosted their first Gateway to Success event. Gateway to Success is a program designed to help Ross County area students with disabilities who are considering furthering their education.

Staff from the OHIO Student Accessibility Services office facilitated the event, with the hope of bettering the understanding of the career selection process, financial assistance, and support services.

Two schools, Chillicothe High School and Zane Trace High School, participated in the event. Students were provided with an orientation to brief them on the agenda for the day. Career exploration was covered first, to help the students determine if a college education would benefit their aspirations. Next, students learned about the financial aid options offered on campus.

Following those information sessions was an Opportunity for Ohioans with Disabilities presentation. Students were then provided lunch, which was followed by a campus tour. The day closed with the students discussing assistive technology and college support options.

OHIO Chillicothe wishes to host similar events in the future to help open more potential options for students with disabilities.
