2019 News Spring Opening Session
January 27, 2019 : Spring 2019 opening session addresses state of campus

On Jan. 23, 2019 Dean Martin Tuck led the 2019 spring semester opening session at Ohio University Chillicothe. The session was designed to update faculty and staff about changes to the campus and provide general news about upcoming events.

Dean Tuck began the meeting by welcoming new members of the OHIO Chillicothe team. Over the winter break, Tony Motta was hired as a Lecturer in the Health Services Administration program, and Lorna Buskirk joined the campus as the Education Program Assistant.

Tuck followed with the announcement of changes in the OHIO Chillicothe nursing program. Ronald Vance has resigned from his Associate Director of Nursing position and will be moving back into a nursing faculty position. Penny Roberts, a faculty member from the Athens campus, has been appointed as the Interim Associate Director of Nursing while the search for a permanent associate director is conducted.

Next on the agenda was the discussion of new responsibilities taken on by existing staff. Martha Tanedo accepted the new role of Coordinator of Financial Aid and Student Activities, Greg Perry took on a Facilities Maintenance position, and Robert Foust stepped into the campus Groundskeeper position.

The Dean then addressed the state of current faculty and staff searches. OHIO Chillicothe is looking to fill faculty positions in psychology and early childhood education. For staff, OHIO Chillicothe is looking to fill a custodial worker position, a coordinator of student support and academic advisor position, and a shared career coach position.

Updates on the Communications and Marketing responsibilities on campus were also addressed. Neeley Allen recently began her maternity leave and is set to return to the campus on April 1. During her leave, Mariah Howell, a student intern will be in charge of the campus newsletter and the social media platforms.

The Academic Success Center project was discussed, and the Dean announced completion of the design phase of the project. The project is still anticipated to begin in the summer of 2019, with construction bids beginning reviewed in the next few weeks.

The Integrated “One University” model was discussed, which plans to integrate Ohio University main campus and regional campus operations into one unified model. Tuck mentioned details of the plan’s implementation have not yet been decided.

Tuck then began to discuss the state of the campus. All Ohio University campuses have been experiencing budgeting and enrollment declines. Ways to address these issues are being reviewed, such as a proposed 3.5% tuition and fees increase for first year students on the Athens and regional campuses.

To close the opening session, a list of upcoming campus events was announced.  Communication about such events will be distributed throughout the semester.
