2019 News Buck Fifty
April 21, 2019 : Another successful Buck Fifty relay hosted in Ross County

On April 12, festivities for the annual Buck Fifty began. Ohio University Chillicothe once again served as the host site for the Buck Fifty, a 150-mile relay stretching across all of Ross County.

Similar to previous years, the OHIO Chillicothe Shoemaker Bridge was the event start and end point. The race consisted of around 100 teams of either 10 or 5 runners, many of which came from other states to experience the relay.

The goal of the event is to help the youth of Ross County who are at risk for drug addiction. With the drug crisis common within Southern Ohio, the efforts of the Buck Fifty and its volunteer go toward a solution. The Buck Fifty organization has founded their own chapter of Drug Free Clubs of America, which is present within local Ross County schools. The proceeds from runners and donations from the event all go toward funding the chapter.

Several OHIO Chillicothe faculty and staff participated in the event as well, serving as volunteers at checkpoints during the 27-hour race. Other campus volunteers also worked on stuffing or passing out swag boxes full of donated items to the runners.

Those interested in more information, registering a team for next year, or signing up to volunteer at the event can visit or follow The Buck Fifty on Facebook and Twitter.
