OHIO UNIVERSITY - CHILLICOTHE

2019 News Baseball Cap
March 26, 2019 : New Hilltopper baseball hats released to support Eli Kunkel

The Ohio University Chillicothe baseball team has released the 2019 season baseball hat, which includes something special to honor a fellow player. On the side of each hat is the number 15, which serves to support Eli Kunkel.

Eli Kunkel is a student athlete who has been involved with the OHIO Chillicothe baseball team for two years. During his sophomore year, he received second team honors and the all-academic award both years he played. Kunkel was recently diagnosed with a debilitating disease which hinders his ability to play alongside his teammates.

Bret Mavis, head coach of the OHIO Chillicothe baseball team suggested the idea of supportive hats since the team wanted to do something special for Kunkel while not going over the top. They chose the subtler strategy to honor Kunkel’s more laid-back personality.

Mavis commented on his experience coaching Eli Kunkel throughout the years. “Eli is a coach’s dream as he just goes and gives his all without hesitation or comment! He is a very dependable and excellent athlete. Most of all, he is a role model for anyone that he would come in contact with. He is a man without many words, who chooses to lead by example in the way he lives his life. My players and I were all taken by surprise when hearing about his disease and miss not having him on the team dearly.”

Those interested in purchasing a hat to support Eli Kunkel and the OHIO Chillicothe Hilltopper Baseball team can special order one from CNK Athletics in Circleville. Hats are priced at $25.
