OUC Volleyball kicks off 2017-18 season

The 2017 Ohio University Chillicothe Lady Hilltoppers volleyball team will kick off their season Aug. 25, 2017 against University of Cincinnati – Clermont at the Shoemaker Center on campus.

This year, the team has six returning players and nine new additions which includes five freshmen and four transfers, adding to the talented lineup. This year’s roster includes Baylee Hartman, Kristin Ross, Alexis Taylor, Hannah Rausch, Shelby Ford Des Wipert, Malia Berry, Mallorie Williams, Katlyn Ray, Micheyla DiDomenico, Alexis Cooper, Maddy Wiseman, Taylor Overly, Taylor Hetterscheidt, and Jamie Mariano.

Coach Ally Coyle, who is starting her second year as head coach at OUC and fifth year overall, has been spending time working with the group of talented women to build a strong team bond both on and off the court.

“We have spent a lot of time building a really strong team bond off the court that I believe is going to play a huge part in our success this year,” Coyle said.

She highlighted the strong leadership of this year’s team captains, Micheyla DiDomenico, Taylor Hetterscheidt and Taylor Overly, and emphasized their defensive capabilities.

It’s hard to imagine this team having any weakness, as most have been playing since middle school, but Coyle stated that this the team has spent numerous hours focusing on offense and developing a better connection between their setters and hitters.

The team has established big goals for the season and hopes to cap off their run going undefeated in the Ohio Regional Campus Conference and winning the state championship as well as not losing a game on their home court.

“I am so excited for this season and to have the opportunity to coach these girls,” said Coyle. “They have been working really hard the past couple months and I can't wait to see that hard work pay off.”
