The Associate Degree in Science allows you the flexibility to select from a wide variety of coursework that supports studies in the liberal arts, completion of Baccalaureate and pre-professional degrees, or transfer in or out of OHIO.

This is also a great option if you are undecided about what you want to major in, but wants to give purpose to coursework you are taking. The wide variety of coursework to choose from allows you to explore possible majors while simultaneously earning a degree. Additionally, many times students that change majors qualify for an Associate of Science degree without knowing it and it allows them to feel a sense of accomplishment for the completed coursework, even if they now have a different educational path.

Course of Study

The Associate of Science curriculum consists of 60 hours total, with at least 20 hours in the Sciences. There are nearly 20 different departments in this, so selecting coursework depends on the menu of courses available any semester. For a list of those departments, visit the OHIO academic catalog. The student must also complete ten hours in Arts and Humanities, an additional ten hours in Social Sciences, and a minimum of 24 hours of general education courses.

Location

The large number of course options in this degree is what makes it an attractive option. Courses are offered on the Chillicothe campus and some options may be available online.

Admission Requirements

To qualify for admission, you must be a high school graduate or GED recipient. You must be in good academic standing and must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in the area of emphasis, Science. The degree cannot be awarded if the grade point average in the major is below a 2.0.

Areas of Interest

The Associate in Science degree can be utilized in preparation for a pre-professional or other baccalaureate degree. Areas of emphasis might include math and physics if you are preparing for an engineering degree or biology/chemistry if you are preparing for a pre-med degree. If you are pursuing a specific degree in the sciences, the area of emphasis could be in that specific discipline if OHIO Chillicothe offers courses in that area. Not all sciences or science courses are offered at the Chillicothe campus; therefore, you are encouraged to meet with an advisor to assist you in using this degree to prepare for a baccalaureate degree.
