ONLINE PROGRAMS & COURSES

OHIO UNIVERSITY CHILLICOTHE

Online courses offer a convenient way to secure college credit. From the convenience of home or work, students can log in to course websites where faculty members provide an enriching learning environment. Technologies that deliver courses to students at OUC include options for:

➢ Online learning. These courses occur completely within a virtual environment

through an Internet-based course web site. Online courses are described further below.

➢ Blended learning. A blended course combines traditional face-to-face instruction

with an online component. For instance, students may attend courses on campus with their professor followed by online discussion boards and other assignments.

➢ Video Conferencing. OUC participates in a system-wide set of courses offered

through a video system. Students on the OUC campus, for example, may take a course offered by a professor on another regional campus or vice versa.

Online

Ohio University Chillicothe strives to meet the needs of our students. Providing online courses is one method that allows students to take classes with commitments of work and family. Online courses offer a convenient way to secure college credit. From the convenience of home or work, students can log in to course websites where faculty members provide an enriching learning environment. At OUC, online courses must be approved through a rigorous, internal process before they can be offered. Students can expect that online courses will have been peer-reviewed by college educators. Using the Quality Matters standards and guidelines, the quality of online courses is high at OUC. Quality Matters criteria examine accessibility, consistency, and navigation in order to determine if students can enter, use, and find information within a course web site.

At Ohio University, we use the Blackboard course delivery system. Students use their Ohio login and password to access a course website. Once there, they will find places where their instructors post announcements, discussion boards, course content, video-recorded lectures, grades, tests and more. Students will have opportunities to interact with their peers and their professors. In addition, many faculty also rely on email, Skype, and other tools to be in contact with their class. Depending on the course, you may need to schedule appointments for test proctoring.

Online courses offer flexibility and convenience, but they are demanding and may not be the best option for all students. You, the student, must take an active role in the learning process. Not only do you need technical skills, you must be self-motivated and an independent learner with time management skills. Additional information, as well as available courses for current students may be obtained at Ohio University’s eCampus website.

Faculty members interested in teaching online, can locate the campus policy and forms on the "Faculty & Staff" page of the OUC website listed under "Policy and Procedures".
