As an undergrad, Emily Burns ’13 studied human trafficking on a month-long trip to India. Now her graduate studies focus on a new intersection: social mobility and public transportation.
Feminist theory remains a constant thread in her work, which began as a Women’s and Gender Studies major at Ohio University.
She notes that public transportation directly impacts a person’s capacity to get to a job—and whether that individual will be able to break socioeconomic barriers.
