Research Interests

Dr. Julie Sarno Owens is a Professor in the Department of Psychology and Co-Director of the Center for Intervention Research in Schools. Her research is focused on improving school mental health services for elementary school-aged youth with ADHD and related problems. Within this area, her studies are organized across three lines: (a) evaluation of effectiveness, feasibility, and sustainment of evidence-based interventions under typical school conditions, (b) modification of procedures to address barriers to intervention implementation and positive student outcomes, and (c) the assessment of impairment in youth with ADHD to inform future intervention modifications. Her work has been continuously funded by local, state and national grants, including the Institute of Education Sciences and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She is an Associate Editor for School Mental Health and on the editorial boards of five journals. She is a licensed clinical psychologist in Ohio and a Presidential Research Scholar at Ohio University. Dr. Owens mentors graduate students in the clinical child psychology specialty area, and mentors undergraduates students interested in a variety of child-focused specialty areas (e.g., school psychology, school social work, school counseling).
