Graduate Scholarships & Assistantships

The Philosophy Department is able to offer the following types of financial assistance to graduate students. Applications must be received by March 1 to receive full consideration. But applications submitted after this date will also be reviewed.

  • Teaching Assistantships—stipends of about $13,000 with accompanying scholarship for payment of tuition
  • The Donald M. Borchert Fellowship—The fellowship provides an extra $1,500 on top of the base stipend of $13,000 for a teaching assistant. The fellowship is available for one incoming student and payable only in the first year.
  • Graduate Tuition Scholarships—A Graduate Recruitment Scholarship (GRS) includes a partial tuition scholarship (waiver of most of the Instructional Fee and all of the Non-resident Surcharge) and a small stipend ($975) sufficient to cover the remainder of tuition. In return, the recipient works 5-6 hours per week supporting the department's mission.
