Business Section

ENG 1610 Freshman Composition & Business Writing for non-native English speaking undergraduate students helps students develop their professional writing skills.

Team projects with local clients mean that students are writing in real-world business situations.

Business writing skills such as finding and analyzing information, writing clearly and concisely, and using accurate vocabulary and grammar are the priority in this class.

This course fulfills the requirements for a freshman composition course (ENG 1510). In addition, it works on collaborative writing and giving advanced and useful peer feedback to create a community of writers.

Course writing assignments and assignment topics include: Professional Memos, Observation Reports, SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats) Analyses, and Recommendation Reports.

Critical reading, source use and APA, and professional writing style are included.

Past client partners include: Donkey Coffee, Rural Action, and Bagel Street Deli in Athens, Ohio.
