The History Department employs tenured and tenure-track professors who teach a variety of undergraduate courses in U.S., European, and Non-Western history, covering the ancient period to the modern era. History faculty also teach a variety of graduate courses, supervise M.A. thesis projects focusing on diverse time periods and regions of the globe, and supervise Ph.D. dissertation projects focusing on diverse regions of the globe in the 20th century.

In addition to their significant teaching duties, department faculty publish books and journal articles and deliver invited lectures and conference presentations. Faculty members also receive research fellowships, grants, and consulting contracts.

The History Department sponsored both undergraduate and graduate research conferences and an undergraduate research journal.

Recent Awards for Teaching, Research or Service

Assistant Professor Assan Sarr received (along with his student Madison Edwards) an Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities award from the College of Charleston.

Associate Professor Brian Schoen won the Dean's Outstanding Faculty Undergraduate Advising Award from the College of Arts & Sciences.

Associate Professor Ingo Trauschweizer won the Dean's Outstanding Teaching Award from the College of Arts & Sciences.
