Junior year of high school

How did you find Ohio University?

Other students at my high school were interested, and a representative from Ohio University came to my high school.

What do you remember from your college visit?

I remember a lively student giving me a tour in a college town environment with students all around my age filling the campus. I also recall really connecting with the facilities and the business programs Ohio University had to provide.

Why did you choose Ohio University?

I chose Ohio University because I really liked what the College of Business had to offer. I was attracted to the organizations, professors, and curriculum. After high school, I was ready to leave my hometown and start living on my own, and OHIO was able to provide this. OHIO is a larger school but not too big or too small like some other colleges I was looking at. This allowed me to avoid the feeling of just being a “number” yet get the ability to meet new people each day. Lastly, OHIO gave me a great financial aid package in comparison to the other schools.

What are you studying? How did you come to that?

I am currently studying Finance, Business Analytics, and Spanish. I originally came into Ohio University studying International Business and Spanish. After taking a handful of accounting, economics, and finance classes my freshman year, I was able to decide that I wanted to focus on finance. The job opportunities in the finance world attracted me the most and fit my personality and work style the best.

Reflect on your Cluster experience.

My Cluster experience was full virtual due to COVID-19. Regardless of the challenge of online learning, the experience was invaluable. This experience required me to attend 4 core classes along with working with a cohort of 3-5 students on team projects throughout the semester. Cluster gave me work and set expectations of those of a real internship along with learning course material like a normal semester. This experience taught me how to collaborate effectively with other students in my cohort to accomplish our project that we were asked to present throughout the semester. Although Cluster is a demanding course load, it gives you the closest thing to real world experience on a college campus.

How else are you involved on campus?

I am the Treasurer of the Latino Student Union, a member of the Ohio University Select Leader Development Program, and a Head Analyst for the Ohio University Student Fixed Income Management Group.

What is your graduation year? What do you want to do after graduation?

My graduation year is 2023. My plans after I graduate is to work as an Investment Banker on Wall Street, preferably on a Leveraged Finance team. As well, I would like to expand my real estate investing portfolio.
