Brandon DeLorenzo, College of Business student ambassador

What is your hometown?

I am an out-of-state student from Blacksburg, Virginia.

When did you start your college search?

I started my college search around the middle of my junior year. I'd already identified what I wanted to do, so it was just preliminary research into what universities were good at what I wanted to study.

How did you find Ohio University?

I found Ohio University when looking at college rankings for undergraduate sport management programs and seeing them consistently ranked at the top of the list.

What do you remember from your college visit?

I remember how genuine the students I talked to seemed. At some universities, it felt like they were putting on a façade to try to get me to commit there, but OHIO seemed to genuinely want to help me with my search.

Why did you choose Ohio University?

I chose OHIO for a number of reasons, the first being its top sport management program. Additionally, Athens and OHIO's campus just felt like home for me, and I was very comfortable being here after a visit or two.

The College of Business and Athens

What are you studying? How did you come to that?

I'm studying Sport Management and Marketing. Sports have always been one of my passions and getting to know the business behind it was always an attractive option to me. With regards to marketing, in high school I was heavily involved in DECA. That was heavily marketing based, and I realized I both enjoyed the work I was doing, and had a knack for it.

Reflect on your Cluster experience.

Cluster was an enjoyable experience for me. It gave me the opportunity to work in a setting unlike any other and forces you to work effectively with your team to solve high stakes, time-constrained questions. It has done a lot to develop me both as a professional and a leader.

How else are you involved on campus?

I am a member of the College of Business Honors Program, serve as a learning community leader, and am involved in my business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi.

What is your graduation year? What do you want to do after graduation?

I am planning to graduate in the spring of 2022 and begin work in sponsorship sales for hopefully a major sports team.

Share about your advisor? Your Career Coach?

My career coach, Annie Brackley, is my greatest asset on campus and is always there if I need anything at all, even if it is just a sympathetic ear. She is willing to do anything to help students succeed and is a wonderful person to get to know.

Favorite campus landmark? Place to study? Place to eat? Coffee?

Favorite place to study is Copeland Hall late at night. There are so many little rooms and nooks you can shack up in and just grind on your work. It's very peaceful at night when there is no one else there, and it feels like the world is asleep. Plus, the night crew cleaning ladies are super nice.

Personality Questions

If you could live in any sitcom, which one would it be and why?

I'd have to go with Community. There's just a very interesting cast of characters on the show that I would love to interact with. Abed in particular due to his penchant for relating everything that is happening to him to either movies or TV shows that he has seen. Plus, who doesn't want to hang out with Donald Glover?

If you had your own talk show, who would your first three guests be?

If I were to have my own talk show, I would choose to bring in Brendon Urie (singer of Panic! at the Disco), Joel Embiid (center for the 76'ers), and Anna Kendrick.

Favorite season and why?

Definitely fall. Athens is absolutely gorgeous in the fall and walking around campus and College Green is so relaxing. Plus, my wardrobe is tailored more toward the colder months than the hotter ones so being able to break out some of my favorite outfits is always a plus.

Favorite genre of music?

My favorite genre is alternative/indie rock. A lot of that type of music is either really relaxing or super angsty, which honestly sums up college pretty well so it offers music that will correspond with any mood I'm feeling.

Favorite music artist?

Panic! At the Disco, hands down no questions asked. At this point being a Panic! fan is like 45% of my personality. Honorable mentions include Saint Motel, Bastille, and B.O.B.

What are your hobbies?

In my free time, I love to read. My favorite book currently is The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Beyond that, I enjoy going for runs and working out and am an avid sports fan.
