Executive Compensation Philosophy

At Ohio University, all executive compensation is informed by data provided by Human Resources Compensation professionals, working to provide a competitive range that balances external competitiveness with internal equity. Most commonly, base pay is aligned to the market median. The pay structure allows flexibility to recognize differences related to position criticality, individual performance factors and market influencers.

Comparison Institutions

For the sake of market comparisons, Ohio University uses salary information from 20 institutions, including 10 Inter-University Council public universities in Ohio and 10 National Institutions as defined by the university’s official peer set. Those peer institutions include:

While bonus compensation comparisons are not provided by CUPA-HR data, human resources is able to source information about bonus compensation from peer institutions through the Freedom of Information Act when bonus compensation or other perquisites are considered.

In addition to contractural bonuses, any Ohio University employee may be awarded an Employee Recognition Award at the request of their supervisor to recognize extraordinary performance or achievement per University Policy 40-011. Recognition Awards exceeding $3,000 must be approved by the President. Employee Recognition Awards are currently suspended, however, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
