"Room to Grow: Nurturing Student Writing Through Engagement and Encouragement"

June 8-12 | 10 AM – 4 PM

Ohio University-Athens Campus

Ellis Hall 113

$50 Registration Fee | 2.5 CEUs Available

Starting from the basic principle that students learn best when they care about what they are learning, this weeklong workshop looks at the role of compassion in teaching students to become better writers. Led by Sherrie Gradin, Don Dudding, and Talinn Phillips, this workshop will guide participants through a variety of lively discussions, relevant readings, and interesting writing activities to develop a deeper understanding of how attending to student concerns helps them develop voice, competence, and fluency in writing. Teacher participants can expect to build upon their own methods of engaging students in writing by sharing with others the ideas that work within their own classrooms and to reflect upon the obstacles that often deter their students from authentic participation in their own education.
