Volunteer Headquarters

A letter from the Executive Director:

Dear Alumni Volunteer Leaders,

Welcome to the OHIO Alumni Association’s online Volunteer Headquarters! Your love for and dedication to Ohio University is what makes this singular place so incredibly special, and we are so glad that you are partnering with us as we turn the page on a 160-year history of the OHIO Alumni Association and begin to implement the Association’s strategic plan.

While collaboratively drafting the strategic plan, assessment and reconfiguration of the chapter and society model emerged as a top and important priority. To that end, we will be forming working groups comprised of OAA Board members, staff, and volunteer group leaders in the months to come. We look forward to taking this time with the working groups to design an alumni engagement model that addresses the new ways in which people want to be involved and the changing needs of our alumni base, as well as the realities of University fiscal policies. The information collected during this process will be used to collaboratively design an alumni engagement model that incorporates feedback from volunteers, the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and staff.

It is important to remember a couple of things: the OHIO Alumni Association is acting with positive intent; the model under which chapters and societies have operated needs to evolve in order to achieve the very best things for this great University; and we want and need your constructive input.

While this assessment and reconfiguration is happening, chapter and society support has been modified:

  • First and foremost, funding and support is still available during the fiscal year for meaningful engagement that aligns with the OAA Strategic Plan. However, rather than submitting notifications that events are happening using Tier Funding, chapters and societies must submit a request for support (laying out the objectives for the event and how they align with the Association's goals) that will need to be approved by OAA staff.
  • Anything that has already been submitted for the summer will move forward as usual with the support of the OAA.
  • The old event notification form has been deactivated.
  • The new event request form is now live online under the “Resources” tab. Please read the guidelines carefully before submitting any requests. Please allow up to two weeks for review.
  • An event in a box form is also available under “Resources” for groups wishing to independently host events such as happy hours, tailgates, and other activities that are not seeking funding from the OAA. The event in a box is curated and contains supplies from the OAA to support our alumni groups and their events during this time.
  • Finally, a general funding request form can be found in the "Resources" tab. This form is for requesting non-event related funding.

Thank you for all that you have done and continue to do in support of your Alumni Association and Ohio University. If you have questions, please email alumniengagement@ohio.edu. We are here to help and appreciate your cooperation as we work to create a world-class alumni engagement model.

In Bobcat Pride,

Erin
