Team Phillips battles breast cancer

Basketball season is in full swing, and the Bobcats are feeling particularly grateful for their coach this year. Nicole Phillips, wife of OHIO Men’s Basketball Head Coach Saul Phillips, and their three young children were floored with her breast cancer diagnosis only two seasons ago. Celebrate the School of Music’s 100th anniversary

Ohio University School of Music turns 100 this year! To celebrate the centennial birthday it’s inviting faculty, staff, alumni and friends to events in Athens and New York City. To mark this festive year, the Wind Symphony makes its Carnegie Hall debut with OHIO Director of Bands Andrew Trachsel on Feb. 27. The ensemble presents a diverse program featuring Broadway star Denée Benton, the Canadian Brass, OHIO percussionist Roger Braun and composers Dave Malloy and Mark Phillips. Dr. David Descutner appointed as OHIO interim president

The Ohio University Board of Trustees appointed David Descutner, Ph.D., as interim president of the University, effective Feb. 18. Descutner retired from OHIO in 2015 as the dean of University College and executive vice provost for undergraduate education. Since joining Ohio University as a faculty member in 1979, he has been recognized for his teaching, mentoring, and advocacy on behalf of regional campus faculty. Firsthand recollections from a Marching 110 alumna

Many Marching 110 alumni have gone onto greatness across a variety of fields. Alumna Jennifer Shutt Bowie was part of that musical team from 1990 to 1993. Bowie, executive director of OHIO Advancement Communication & Marketing, shares her 110 experience here. Though it entailed grueling work and some injuries, being part of the band taught her life skills and provided her unforgettable moments. Alumni mark memorable spots in communications Historypin project

Through the website Historypin.org, senior-level communications students are pairing photographs and documents from the Ohio University Archives with personal stories from alumni. The alumni stories, anecdotes and photos will be used to create a virtual walking tour of campus and Athens. Go here to learn more or submit your story.

BobcaThon Dance Marathon raises the roof and funds for families in need  

Bobcats will dance the night away for 12 hours starting on Feb. 11. The annual BobcaThon dance marathon raises awareness and funds for central Ohio families whose children have been hospitalized because of a serious illness. Finance alumnus awards department profs with cash, recognition for scholarly work

After supporting Ohio University for 23 years through financial gifts, OHIO alumnus and emeriti professor Ellsworth Holden made a pivot and now contributes to the department he holds dear: the Department of Finance. Holden recently established The Ellsworth Holden Award, which incentivizes high-quality research within the Department of Finance. Click here to read more.

Ebony Bobcats to hold annual theatre event in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Ebony Bobcat Network presents “Radio Golf” by American playwright August Wilson Feb. 12. “Radio Golf” follows a black man named Harmond Wilkes on his quest to revive his childhood neighborhood and become the first black mayor of Pittsburgh.
