Class of 2018 welcomed to OHIO
Ohio University capped off Go Green Week with the President's Convocation for First-Year Students, welcoming the largest, brightest, most diverse, and, judging from the enthusiasm displayed at the event, one of the most spirited classes in the University's 210-year history.
Ohio Bobcat Club sets annual giving record
The numbers are in and fiscal year 2014 was one for the record books for the Ohio Bobcat Club. From July 1, 2013 - June 30, 2014 Bobcat supporters helped set a new giving mark for the Ohio Bobcat Club Annual Fund.
During this time 1,380 donors gave $747,053.18, which is a 28 percent increase from last year. It was a 49 percent increase over the giving year from 2011-12.
WOUB's 'Perspectives' reimagined
"Perspectives," a WOUB Public Media series that started as a conversation-style show dealing with global issues, has morphed into a cinematic, mostly monologue-based web series. The series highlights world problems, LGBT issues, disability and inclusion, sexual assault and more in an emotional, compelling way.
Konneker Medal for Entrepreunership nominations open
The Vice President for Research and Creative Activity is soliciting nominations for the 2014 Konneker Medal for Commercialization and Entrepreneurship. The Ohio University Foundation established the award to recognize current and former faculty members, students and alumni who have demonstrated excellence in innovation, invention, commercialization and entrepreneurship.

Awards gala to honor distinguished alumni
Outstanding alumni are honored each year at the annual Alumni Awards Gala during Homecoming.
This year, Robert D. Walter, BSME '67, HON '97, will be named Alumnus of the Year. Recipients of the Medal of Merit are Joe B. Harford, BS '73; Arthur J. Marinelli, BA '64; Jack Myslenski, BSIT '73; and Gary J. Olmstead, MFA '66.
Distinguished Service Award honorees are Ralph J. Hopper, Jr., BSED '63; Dell D. Robinson, BSPE '88; and R. Smith "Smitty" Schuneman, BFA '58, MFA '60 and his wife Patricia Schuneman, BSED '59.
Jacob R. Sigal, BSIS '03, MS '05, is the recipient of the Charles J. and Claire O. Ping Recent Graduate Award, and this year's Honorary Alumna is Betsy Ross Koller.
The Kermit Blosser Ohio Athletics Hall of Fame inductees for 2014 are Anthony L. Gressick, BSSP '08; Nathan S. Mayle, BSS '07; and Kim A. Van Selm Roux, BS '02. Ohio Athletics also selected Michael H. Schuler, BSED '62 for the Glenn C. Randall Lifetime Achievement Award.

Kent State issues OHIO ALS ice bucket challenge
The Kent State University president, athletic director and head football coach challenged Ohio University and President Roderick J. McDavis to have a bucket of ice water dumped on his head in the spirit of philanthropy.
#IceBucketChallenge is a national initiative in support of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a progressive disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Watch President McDavis here.
The Bobcats will visit Dix Stadium at Kent State on Aug. 30 to open the football season.
University community mourns death of alumna Ret. Col. Arlene F. Greenfield, BSEd '71
Retired Colonel Arlene F. Greenfield died suddenly on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014 in Arlington, Virginia at the age of 64. The 1971 graduate of The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education was known for her robust leadership presence, generosity and vivacious personality. She was a woman with high expectations and was always quick to recognize the work of others.
"Deborah and I are shocked and deeply grieved by the passing of Arlene, our dear friend and a beloved member of our University family," said President Roderick J. McDavis. "Arlene was a visionary, a philanthropist, a devoted OHIO alumna and a truly exemplary human being in every sense. Her memory and legacy will continue to be a source of unity and inspiration for our university community. Our thoughts and prayers are with Arlene's family in this time of sorrow."
