Q&A with Saul Phillips
Alumni Association Executive Director Jennifer Neubauer spoke with OHIO Men's Head Basketball Coach Saul Phillips recently and got answers for alumni on a number of burning questions, including Phillips' coaching style, plans for the upcoming season and how he likes living in Athens.
Read an excerpt from their conversation below.
Jennifer Neubauer: Who have some of your major influences been as a coach?
Saul Phillips: I was with [current University of Wisconsin-Madison head coach] Bo Ryan for 10 years, five as a player, and five as a coach. His son is on my staff. That one's obvious. I've also worked with Greg McDermott at Wayne State. He's at Creighton now. His son was a first-round draft pick for the Chicago Bulls this year, and I beat him one-on-one. Now, he was five years old, but I still beat him. You can't take that win away from me, and I'm not playing him again.
