Clarke named vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion
Shari Clarke, Ph.D., has been appointed as vice provost for Diversity and Inclusion following a national search, beginning January 2014. Shari joins OHIO from Marshall University, where she is the vice president for Multicultural Affairs.
Chila named Educator of the Year
Anthony Chila, D.O., professor emeritus in the Department of Family Medicine, received the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) 2013 Educator of the Year award on Sunday, Sept. 29.
Researcher's study makes media splash
The Internet and media are abuzz about a new study — co-authored by Ohio University researcher Anirudh V. S. Ruhil — that suggests that the Voting Rights Act has played a key role in increasing minority representation on city councils nationwide.

A Night in Athens … In Chicago!
This event for OHIO alumni living in the Chicago area is right around the corner! On December 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Bobcats residing in Chicago are afforded the opportunity to re-live the nostalgia of places like Court Street and the College Green without leaving the city! Enjoy the Athens-replicated food and beverages, including complementary beer and wine. After the initial taste of Athens, alumni can partake in hearing local music and viewing photos spanning several decades at Ohio University. Alumni who attend will also be in the company of fellow Bobcats and University leadership, including President Roderick J. McDavis.
The Chicago Marriott Downtown at Magnificent Mile will be the site of this alumni event. The address is 540 N. Michigan Ave. and advanced registration is required by Thursday, Dec. 5. The cost is $10 per person; however parking is not included with event registration.

OHIO women gear up for Fall Brunch/Holiday Auction
The Ohio University Women's Club of Greater Cleveland is hosting its annual Fall Brunch and Holiday Auction this weekend.
This award-winning, sold-out event has consistently been a great opportunity for both early holiday shoppers and those wishing to support the Women's Club scholarship fund.
All tickets for this year's event recently sold out, and planners are expecting another great year.

Faculty member named for new Gawande Chair
Brian Collins (pictured above) was hired to fill the Gawande chair position in Classics and World Religions. The chair was established by Doctors Ram and Sushila Gawande aims to increase knowledge, awareness of Indian culture, and collaboration between Ohio University and India.
The Athens community has been home for many years to Drs. Ram and Sushila Gawande. Ram, who passed away in August, 2011, was a urologist and Sushila, a pediatrician, moved to Athens in the 1970s and served as an integral part of both the O'Bleness Health System and the city of Athens.
The Gawande family has been known for their philanthropy in the Athens community through the years. Read more about the Gawande Chair position here.
