Baker Fund awards $32,083 to 3 outstanding research projects
The Baker Fund awards for the 2013 spring cycle have been announced and $32,083 will fund three projects that will assist OHIO faculty in completing active research projects. Awardees are Associate Professor of Music Therapy Kamile Geist in the College of Fine Arts; Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine Associate Professor Bonita Biegalke in the Department of Biomedical Sciences; and Associate Professor Harvey Ballard in the College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Environmental and Plant Biology.
Innovation Engine Accelerator accepts 6 participants
The Innovation Engine Accelerator has accepted six digital media startups into an intensive 12-week summer program designed to advance entrepreneurship in Ohio. The second annual program began on May 28 and runs through Aug. 16 at Ohio University’s Innovation Center in Athens.
Perspectives magazine wins national CASE award
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has awarded a gold medal to Ohio University’s Perspectives magazine in the national Circle of Excellence awards program. The magazine highlights the university’s research, scholarship and creative activity for a diverse audience of readers.

Golf Scrambles raise scholarship funds
The Central Ohio Alumni Network's Fourth Annual Golf Scramble will take place July 20 at the Oakhurst Country Club in Grove City. The tournament is a four person best ball scramble format. The Golf Scramble will raise funds for the chapters scholarship which helps send a Central Ohio area student to Ohio University. Alumni and friends can register online for the golf outing through July 5; cost is $70 per golfer and $25 per non-golfer.
The Nation's Capital Chapter held a Golf Scramble in June at the South Riding Golf Course in Virginia to raise funds for the chapter scholarship, which helps send a Washington, DC-area student to Ohio University. This year the chapter raised $1,806 for the scholarship.
A Night In Athens In Cleveland
Northeast Ohio alumni will join The Ohio University Foundation Board for "A Night in Athens… in Cleveland" Thursday, July 18 at the Cleveland Marriott Downtown at Key Center.

On June 13, the Ohio University Alumni Association's (OUAA) Board of Directors hosted 83 alumni and friends in Alexandria, Va., for a special reception at historic Virtue Feed & Grain. Seventeen OUAA board members traveled from across the country for the Board's summer business meeting and to provide opportunities to engage with the local chapter.
The event highlighted OHIO's The Promise Lives Campaign, which seeks to raise $450 million by June 30, 2015, and already has secured more than $425 million toward its goal in support of students, faculty, programs, partnerships and select facilities.
OUAA offers Bobcat Bashes for the 2013 football season
Join fellow Bobcats at any of this year's pre-game Bobcat Bashes, sponsored by the Ohio University Alumni Association and the Ohio Bobcat Club! Bobcat Bashes are a great opportunity to reconnect and cheer on the team with your fellow alumni.
This season of Bashes kicks off on Sept. 1 with the OHIO vs. University of Louisville game. Registration is also available for the Oct. 19 Bash before the Eastern Michigan game and for the Nov. 5 Bash at University of Buffalo. See the schedule here and stay tuned for additional bashes!
Oct. 7-12 is Homecoming 2013
Join thousands of fellow Bobcats in celebrating "OUr past • OUr present • OUr future" during this year’s Homecoming Weekend. Friday night features a pep rally at Pepsi Tailgreat Park at 9 and Ohio University Alumni Association's Annual Awards Gala at Baker University Center.
Saturday kicks off with a free Coffee Hour at the Front Room in Baker University Center sponsored by OUAA, followed by the annual Homecoming parade. Come out to the pre-game Bobcat Bash and get ready to cheer on the Bobcats as they take on Central Michigan.
Following the football game, check out the OHIO Volleyball match at the Convocation Center with a performance by the OHIO Alumni Varsity Band.

Alumni Leaders' Conference Awardees
The 2013 Alumni Leaders' Conference Chapter and Society Awards allow us to recognize and show our appreciation for the hard work that goes into these excellent programs and the dedicated volunteers who make them successful.
The award winners this year included the Community Service Award to the Greater Charlotte Chapter for its outstanding involvement with the Charlotte Family House, and United Campus Ministry for their outstanding 30th Annual Fundraiser; the Alumni Networking Award to the Massachusetts Serving New England Chapter and the Communication Sciences and Disorders Society; and the Philanthropic Award to the Ohio University Women’s Club of Greater Cleveland and The Post Society.
The Most Innovative Award went to the Greater Cleveland Chapter on their successful Great Lakes Beer Tasting School and the College of Business Society of Alumni and Friends on their successful 2nd Annual Bobcat Basketball Bus Trip.
Other awards went to: the Metro NY Chapter for reorganizing and for their hard work toward building a strong and established chapter; the George V. Voinovich School Alumni Society for establishing a new society; the Chicago Chapter for their efforts toward recruiting volunteers, increasing alumni engagement and establishing a wide array of activities; and to the Ohio University Marching Band Society of Alumni and Friends for their continued efforts to engage marching band alumni.
The Los Angeles Chapter and the Army ROTC Society each won an Alumni and Student Networking Award for excelling in connecting students and alumni.
