Sisters create endowed scholarship in honor of father
Sisters Julie Mann, Lisa Mann McCormick and Caroline Mann have created the Hanly Mann Scholarship for Women in Engineering in honor of their father, who passed away in March 2000. Hanly Mann graduated from OHIO in 1966 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering, with his daughters following his footsteps. The sisters say that their father desired to see women succeed in a male-dominated profession. This scholarship will help aspiring female engineers have the same opportunities at OHIO as the Mann family.

Save the date: Black Alumni Reunion,
Sept. 27-29, 2013

The Black Alumni Reunion is the largest reunion at Ohio University. The reunion is hosted every three years by the Ohio University Alumni Association, with help from two committees comprising on-campus departments, organizations, student groups and alumni. In the past, the weekend has featured entertaining and educational events, including dance performances, book signings, discussions about the current and future state of the university, concerts and a gala. In 2010, more than 1,600 alumni returned to OHIO for this event and raised more than $40,000 for the Urban Scholars Program.

Starting in mid-September 2012, packages will be offered to alumni and friends with discounted hotel rates, transportation to and from campus, selected events, and t-shirts. Hotel reservations cannot be made prior to mid-September 2012.

Celebrate the CSD program's 75th, Sept. 14-16
The origins of Ohio University's Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) program date back to 1937, as part of the School of Dramatic Art and Speech in the College of Fine Arts. It has evolved since then, now part of the College of Health Sciences and Professions' School of Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences.

The CSD program is ranked in the top eight percent of similar programs in the U.S. The anniversary weekend events feature a colloquium, "Walk Down Memory Lane," social and networking events, and informal dinner and dance performance, and many other entertaining and informative activities.

To register for the CSD 75th Anniversary, visit back2ou.com or call (740) 593-4300 by Aug. 15. The registration fee is $60 and includes all events and meals for the weekend.

New alumni chapters off to a great start
Ohio University Alumni Association and current chapter leaders have been hosting meetings to talk about reorganizing and creating new Alumni chapters. Discussions have included types of events, event planning guidelines and chapter leadership structure.

In Ohio, the Cincinnati, Cleveland, Dayton and Toledo chapters reorganized, and the new OHIO Employee Chapter was formed. Nationally, the Atlanta, Denver, New York, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh chapters reorganized and chapters were created in San Francisco and Tennessee. Most chapters added to their current leadership and others created all new leadership.

Alumni chapters are designed to serve geographically-based groups of alumni. In the last year our chapters engaged more than 200 volunteers and hosted more than 300 events. More than 11,000 alumni participated in all the chapter events combined.

For more information on how to start or reorganize a chapter, contact Dawn Werry at werryd@ohio.edu or Erica Lipscomb at lipscome@ohio.edu.
