Konneker Alumni Center Dedication, Oct. 10, 1981
Homecoming 1981 was made more special as alumni were presented their 'new home.' Speakers included then Ohio University President Dr. Charles Ping, Bob Axline, BSCO '57 and HON '02, and Will Konneker, BS '43, MS '47, with Ann Lee Konneker present.

Your Alumni Center celebrates its 30th year
The Konneker Alumni Center, home to the Ohio University Alumni Association, will celebrate its 30th anniversary this Homecoming with an Open House scheduled for Saturday, October 15 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.

The white-pillared Georgian structure on University Terrace, adjacent to the College Green, was originally constructed in 1902 as a residence for General Charles H. Grosvenor. OHIO's search for an appropriate place to house an alumni center culminated in 1980, when Dr. Wilfred R. Konneker, BS '43, MS '47 and his wife, Ann Lee Konneker provided funds for the purchase of the house by the Ohio University Foundation.

In honor of Dr. and Mrs. Konneker and their gift to the University, the Foundation dedicated the new alumni center on Homecoming Day 1981, naming it the W. R. Konneker Alumni Center. The generous gift has allowed the Konneker Alumni Center to serve as a gathering place for visitors of Ohio University throughout the years, sponsoring class reunions, college anniversaries, the annual Alumni College and countless social events.

Homecoming 2011 is Oct. 14-16!
Stay in town after Friday night's annual "Yell Like Hell" Pep Rally for this year's new event, "Rock the Block," from 7-11 p.m., featuring music from Shallowtail and Dave Rave. Ohio Brew Week is featuring OHIO alumni craft brewers and sponsoring a beer garden. At the Ridges, hayrides will also take place both Friday and Saturday night.

The annual Alumni Awards Gala is also scheduled for Friday evening, at Baker University Center Ballroom from 5:30-9 p.m. The Gala, honoring outstanding alumni and friends of Ohio University, will feature a dinner, award program and reception.

On Saturday, after the OUAA-sponsored free Coffee Hour at the Front Room and Homecoming Parade, head over to Konneker Alumni Center for this year's special Open House Celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Alumni Association –– 52 University Terrace from 10:30 to noon.

Come out to the pre-game Bobcat Bash at 11:30 a.m. at Grover Center. Check out the Nationwide tent from 12:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Pepsi Tailgreat Park for free giveaways and learn about the OUAA/Nationwide partnership. Cheer on the Bobcats at Peden Stadium as they take on Ball State at 3:30 p.m!

Following the football game, check out the OHIO Volleyball match at the Convocation Center with a performance by the OHIO Alumni Varsity Band. Be sure to visit OUAA's tables at both the Convo and Peden Stadium. OUAA will also offer the "OH, I dO" vowel renewal ceremony at 18:04. Spotlight on volunteers

In 1980, Dr. Wilfred R. Konneker, BS '43, MS '47, and his wife, Ann Lee Konneker, generously provided the funds for the purchase of the building that now houses the Konneker Alumni Center on University Terrace, adjacent to the College Green.

The Konnekers' contributions don't end there, however. Dr. Konneker was the chair of the university's first major fund drive, The 1804 Campaign, has served on the Ohio University Board of Trustees, was president of the Alumni Association from 1972-1974, and is a lifetime member of the Ohio University Foundation Board. He and Ann Lee have established an endowed scholarship and the Konneker Lead Trust. Dr. Konneker was a principle architect of the Cutler Scholars program, and is known as the father of OHIO’s Innovation Center, serving as director from 1983 to 1991.

In 1964, Dr. Konneker was awarded the Alumni Medal of Merit for his work in nuclear physics, was named Alumnus of the Year in 1979 and Mrs. Konneker, was named an honorary alumna of Ohio University in 1980.

The Konnekers currently live in St. Louis, Mo., where they are active members of the community, through Opera Theatre of St. Louis and Washington University.

OUAA would like to express its gratitude to the Konnekers, and their continuous commitment to Ohio University and its Alumni Association.
