The Konneker Alumni Center, home to the Ohio University Alumni Association, will celebrate its 30th anniversary this Homecoming with an Open House scheduled for Saturday, October 15 from 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.
The white-pillared Georgian structure on University Terrace, adjacent to the College Green, was originally constructed in 1902 as a residence for General Charles H. Grosvenor. OHIO's search for an appropriate place to house an alumni center culminated in 1980, when Dr. Wilfred R. Konneker, BS '43, MS '47 and his wife, Ann Lee Konneker provided funds for the purchase of the house by the Ohio University Foundation.
In honor of Dr. and Mrs. Konneker and their gift to the University, the Foundation dedicated the new alumni center on Homecoming Day 1981, naming it the W. R. Konneker Alumni Center. The generous gift has allowed the Konneker Alumni Center to serve as a gathering place for visitors of Ohio University throughout the years, sponsoring class reunions, college anniversaries, the annual Alumni College and countless social events.
