DeLawders commit $50,000 to Urban, Appalachian scholarships
C. Daniel and Diane DeLawder are committing $50,000 to Ohio University's Urban Scholars and Appalachian Scholars programs. The programs were established to increase diversity and to create higher education opportunities for students from urban and Appalachian regions of Ohio.

Student leaders honored at gala
Students and organizations were awarded honors in 11 categories for outstanding community service, academic achievement and leadership at OHIO's 26th annual Leadership Awards Gala. Keynote speaker Eric Fingerhut, Ohio Board of Regents chancellor and former state senator, offered thanks to award winners for their service.

Governor appoints new trustees
Gov. Ted Strickland announced two new appointments to the Ohio University Board of Trustees. Yvette McGee Brown of Gahanna will serve a nine-year term on the board, beginning in June, filling the spot recently vacated by C. Daniel DeLawder. Student Kyle Triplett of New Philadelphia will serve a two-year term on the board, succeeding student trustee Tracy Kelly.

Alden Library remains heart of OHIO
Alden Library celebrated 40 years of service recently with a rededication ceremony for the public as well as historic displays and library tours. Former President Vernon R. Alden returned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the library named in his honor and shared memories of his time at Ohio University.

First Bobcat wins MAC baseball Player of the Year
Ohio University junior Marc Krauss made history when he was named the Mid-American Conference baseball Player of the Year by the league office, as he becomes the first Bobcat ever to earn the award, which has been handed out since 1986.

International Week a multicultured success

Award-winning photographer and alumnus to serve as commencement speaker

Leonard HermanHerman Leonard, a 1947 BFA graduate and world-renowned photographer whose
images captured the history and movement of jazz, will speak at Ohio
University's undergraduate commencement ceremonies on June 13.  Leonard has received numerous national accolades for his work, including the Milt Hinton Award for Excellence in Jazz Photography, the Lifetime Achievement Award from Downbeat magazine and the Lucie Achievement in Portraiture Award.  For more

Alumni College is back

OUAA 150th This year marks the 150th anniversary of the Ohio University Alumni Association, making it one of the oldest such organizations among public schools anywhere in the country.

About 250,000 alumni have experienced some of the best years of their lives on the Athens and regional campuses. We're planning numerous events that recognize the impact Ohio University alumni have had on the world. Ohio University launches third installment of Soul of Athens

Soul of Athens Today marks the launch for the third annual edition of the award-winning Soul of Athens, an innovative online publication that asks the question: "What is the 'soul' of Athens, Ohio?"

Originally created by Ohio University alumni in 2007, this year's 62-student team at Ohio University's School of Visual Communication and E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, Soul of Athens gives voice to diverse individuals intertwined by a common sense of place through stories that resonate universally. Visitors to the site may visit the 2007 and 2008 versions of the project, as well.

Oak e-mail will convert to CatMail

CatMailOhio University is in the process of replacing its Oak student e-mail system with CatMail, a web-based e-mail service. As part of that process, free CatMail accounts for all current and former Oak users will be created, including individuals who have chosen to forward their Oak e-mail elsewhere.

Current Oak users will keep the same e-mail address. Mail sent to [OakID]@ohio.edu will go to your CatMail account. Your outgoing mail and replies will carry [first.last.#]@ohio.edu as your address. Your outgoing mail and replies will carry [OakID]@ohio.edu as your address. If you continue forwarding your e-mail to another address, no action is required on your part.

OU's Office of Information Technology will be contacting alumni Oak account holders directly as their conversion dates approach. Additional questions about your Oak e-mail account can be directed to OIT at 740-593-1222, or by visiting www.ohio.edu/technology.

Spotlight on a volunteer

Betsy ReeseBetsy Reese '03 is the current President of the E.W.  Scripps School of Journalism Society of Alumni and Friends and a graduate of the school. Betsy has also been involved in the Nation's Capital Alumni Chapter for more than five years and serves as her chapter's communications representative. Betsy also plans the community service events such as Hands on DC and is a new member of the Leaders Advisory Council
