OHIO researchers help design the interplanetary technology
Ohio University researchers are helping to design interplanetary technology that would allow NASA to use the internet in space.
Though the internet pervades life on Earth, the astronauts and satellites patrolling space can’t simply point, click and communicate data via the terrestrial "information superhighway." Planets, the moon or sun spots frequently interfere with internet protocols.

Raising the bar on biodegradables
Building on its reputation as one of the nation’s top-composting institutions, Ohio University is pursuing an alternate line of biodegradable cutlery that can keep pace with its composting technology. Biodegradable service ware is not new to Ohio University. The institution has been purchasing biodegradable food packaging and cutlery since 2007, with the opening of the new Baker University Center.

Tuition increase announced for winter, spring quarters
President Roderick J. McDavis announced Monday that the Ohio University Board of Trustees has approved a 3.5 percent increase to the Athens Campus instructional and general fees for winter and spring quarters.

"Let me assure you that this was not an easy decision to make," McDavis said. He explained that the challenges faced by the state of Ohio are great and the final state budget enacted earlier this summer reflects a decrease in appropriations for higher education when compared with earlier proposals for the budget.

Spotlight on volunteers

Amy Hollis Byron Ward, '89 is the founder of The Black Student Business Caucus (BSBC), a group that celebrated its 20th Anniversary last January. Dedicated to his alma mater, Byron served on the OUAA Board of Directors from 2003-2009, providing leadership as the Co-Chair of the Nominations Committee. Currently a member of the Executive Advisory Board for the College of Business, Byron remains active by returning to campus for board meetings, volunteering for the VAAN and Bobcat Mentor programs, and recruiting Bobcats on LinkedIn for job openings.
