As incoming chair, I have inherited a robust, enthusiastic and active department from Betsy Partyka. While Betsy leaves me with some very large shoes to fill, I am keen to embrace the challenge in true DML spirit! |

Dr. Vera Belousova was a senior lecturer in Russian in the Modern Languages Department. She was born in Moscow, Russia (then Soviet Union) and moved to Athens in 1999.

After the very successful 2009 alumni reunion, the Modern Language Department intended to get together every five years. We realized this goal nine years later on April 21, 2018, with the same enthusiasm from alumni to come to campus more often. |

Forty alumni returned to Athens on Sept. 15 as Modern Languages faculty celebrated the 50th anniversary of its study abroad program in Salzburg, Austria. |

During the past half century some study abroad programs have changed in format and location, but the goal of providing Ohio University students a cultural and academic experience abroad has remained constant.

On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, the department revived the renowned Language Fair after an almost 20-year hiatus! Eight area high schools brought over 400 students in French, German, and Spanish to campus to participate in the festivities.
