In spring 2015, alumni from around the world visited Athens for an International OHIO Alumni Reunion. During their visit to campus we asked them about favorite OHIO memories, how they came to the University and what OHIO means to them as graduates.

Azhari Arshad:

Azhari Arshad, Director at Malayan Flour Mills Berhad from Malaysia, recounts his years as a child living in Athens, Ohio and shares his special connection with Putnam Hall.

Ohio University was full of new experiences for Edward Chow, MAIA ’71, BA ’71. Now a Senior Fellow at the Energy and National Security Program in Washington, D.C., Chow thinks back on his first memories of Thanksgiving and American sports

Now a retired consultant, Henry Heilbrunn, BSJ ’73, talks about his current connection with international students at Ohio University, and reflects back on how the broadcasting school helped to shape his career.

Kyung Taek Ko:

Kyung Taek Ko, BBA ’89, CEO of Ko & Partners Limited in Ontario, Canada, thinks back on his struggles as a young international student traveling in the U.S., and shares a story about the time he was invited to President Charles Ping’s house.

Leonard Majalia Mjomba:

Leonard Majalia Mjomba, MA ’01, PHD ’05, Professor at Taita Taveta University College in Kenya, shows a special copy of Ohio Today, and explains how he has helped people from his native country with the knowledge he gained at OHIO.

Marcus Dahn:

After he received his education at Ohio University, Marcus Dahn, MA ’91, PHD ’95, Director of Graduate School at the University of Liberia, returned to OHIO feeling nostalgic about his Athens experiences, and excited that his daughter is following his footsteps as a current student at OHIO.

Norico Tanaka Wada:

Norico Tanaka Wada has a special connection to Athens—she grew up here. Coming home for the International Alumni Reunion, she reminisces about her childhood and illustrates how WOUB helped her get to where she is today; she is currently a Sr. Executive Producer of Global Business Development at TBS in Tokyo, Japan.

Sang Soo Lee:

Sang Soo Lee, BBA ’84, President of Mac Jin Medical, looks back on his years at Ohio University and talks about reuniting with childhood friends and his economics professor, who helped prepare him for life in the U.S.

Tran Sri Datuk Arshad Ayub:

Tran Sri Datuk Arshad Ayub, LLD ’73, former Director of Directors of UiTM, reflects on his feelings after returning to Athens and Ohio University for the first time in thirty years, and shares the special memory of meeting President Alden.

Yuko Kuwahara & Carol Zizert:

For many students, living with an international student can be a challenge, but Yuko Kuwahara, BA ’78, a high school English teacher from Japan and Carol Zizert, BSHE ’79, a renal dietitian from Zanesville, Ohio built a long-lasting friendship starting as roommates at OHIO many years ago.
