Joyce Atwood epitomizes using one's time, talent and treasure to support Women in Philanthropy of Ohio University (WIP) in addition to other areas of Ohio University. Joyce, former Assistant Superintendent of the Chillicothe, Ohio School System, and currently a Director of Development for Ohio University's Chillicothe Regional Campus, shared her treasure with Ohio University when she joined WIP at the voting level in June 2010. She further supports OHIO through two planned gifts: supporting the Chillicothe Regional Campus (OU-C) Giving Circle and the Atwood-Workman Education Scholarship.
Sharing her time and talent is innate for Joyce. She saw the need to help OU-C students broaden their horizons and used her talent of connecting community members to create a Women in Philanthropy Giving Circle in November 2010. Founding members Susie Cunningham, Lisa Kauffman, Sherry Mong, Joanna River, Laura Whinery, Martha Rittinger and Joyce Atwood each contributed funds to enable students to attend cultural events, receive philanthropic and financial literacy education and to participate in mentoring programs such as the "Conversations with Successful Women" series. Joyce serves on the WIP Financial Literacy Task Force, under the leadership of alumna Jeannie Becka, and helped to create the "Financial Literacy in the 21st Century" course. A heartfelt thank you to Joyce for making a positive difference to WIP, the Chillicothe community and our Ohio University students.
