College of Business

Recognized by BusinessWeek as one of the best business schools in the nation, OHIO’s College of Business (COB) offers a distinctive learning environment that emphasizes the skills, knowledge and application experiences necessary for success in a global economy. We are consistently ranked in the top 50 public university business programs, and our Schey Sales Centre is one of the top five sales programs nationwide.

College of Business - Copeland

We strive continually to provide a distinctive learning environment that actively engages students, faculty and the business community in developing the knowledge and skills relevant for success in a complex, global economy. You can influence that future by supporting the College in its bid to be counted among the top 25 public colleges of business in the country.

Higher education is an engine for economic development. To maintain our nation’s leadership position in the world, we must educate people for the new high-technology global economy. Today, universities are evaluated with metrics such as internships, engaged student learning, placements, and study-abroad experiences. On all those fronts, I’m pleased to report that the Ohio University College of Business stacks up well.

But good is not good enough. We want to become nationally known—among the top 20 public business colleges, in fact—as a premier, innovative leader in professional, integrative, application-oriented undergraduate education. We want to continue to attract excellent students and to provide them with the learning and skills they need to succeed in their personal and professional lives. And we want to continue to recruit and retain outstanding faculty members who are passionate about our students’ success.

Given the current fiscal climate in state-supported higher education, these aspirations require the college to make difficult choices: to choose programs to concentrate on, to focus more on recruitment and retention, and to develop more efficient academic support activities. Accomplishing this vision will require strategic investment and partners, like you, who share a commitment to achieving excellence through innovation.

Your Support

With your support, we will be able to attract the brightest aspiring business leaders, engage our students in leadership and entrepreneurial opportunities, and encourage faculty excellence. We believe that you should be able to support what matters most to you, so you can designate your gift to any area you desire. We have several exciting current initiatives that will benefit from your generosity:

  • Enhancing undergraduate student scholarships;
  • Naming innovative centers including the Center for Entrepreneurship and the Center for Sports Administration to create endowed funds and provide stable, dependable sources of income to support student programming;
  • Naming the School of Accountancy (among the top 30 accountancy programs in the country) and further enhance this established area of excellence;
  • Creating an endowed directorship and recruiting nationally recognized practitioners to lead our Centers;
  • Increasing the number of endowed chairs and professorships;
  • Expanding teaching and research awards for faculty to spark innovation in teaching, research and scholarship;
  • Supporting student-centered initiatives including an Honors Program;
  • Creating an Executive-in-Residence program to bring renowned business people to our faculty for a 3- to 5-year term.

Thanks to the loyalty of a strong network of alumni and friends, the College of Business has been able to attract and retain eminent faculty and help bring the cost of a college education within reach for countless incoming students. We give out many scholarships to outstanding freshmen each year, and another dozen or more stipends are given to our Corporate Leaders, who are senior students identified as having strong leadership potential.

Your support enables our students and faculty members to conduct research projects, publish their results, present their papers at conferences and add to the prestige of the College. Your gift – no matter the amount – makes a huge difference in our ability to compete with schools like Duke, Wake Forest, and Miami. Your generosity will help ensure that OHIO drives the economic engine and improves the quality of life in southeastern Ohio, the state and beyond.
