University Libraries

Behind every great university is a great library. It’s a sine qua non in higher education, for the path-breaking research emanating from faculty and pursued by graduate and undergraduate students, fueled by access to information. At Ohio University, that access to information begins at OHIO’s University Libraries. Over the years, our Libraries have grown along with the University. In 2009, Alden Library added its three-millionth volume and continues to be counted among the top 100 research libraries in North America.

Your Support

With your support, we will stand with OHIO in its quest to become one of the most important universities in nation. We will help the University achieve that goal by capitalizing on our strength: serving as the hub of the academic experience, a place that cultivates student and faculty success. Because we believe you should be able to support what matters most to you, you can designate your gift to any area you desire. We have several exciting current initiatives that will benefit from your generosity:

  • Renovating Alden Library to ensure an environment of student success;
  • Creating a searchable photo archive of countless photographs that have been generously donated over the years, which must be arranged, cataloged and preserved;
  • Building the Libraries’ holdings and providing access to digital academic journals and innovative collections;
  • Digitizing more of the Libraries’ holdings through a Digital Initiatives Endowment, which will extend our reach and showcase OHIO’s resources to a world-wide audience.

Private giving has always had a significant impact on Alden Library. From the Mahn Center for Archives and Special Collections to the Senator Voinovich Seminar Room, the generous support of our friends and donors helps transform our library from good to GREAT!

“The library is far more than a collection of books or a building,” said Vernon Alden, OHIO’s president from 1962-1969. “It is the intellectual heart of the university, a vital element of university life, with an essential role in teaching, learning, and research.” Your gift – no matter the amount – makes a huge difference.
